Nestled in the mountainous highlands of the Guji zone in southern Ethiopia, Megadu coffee emerges from one of the world's most exceptional coffee-growing regions. This area, named after the local Oromo tribe, boasts a rich heritage where coffee has thrived wild in dense forests for over 500 years before formal cultivation began a century ago.
This exceptional offering comes from Bette Buna farm, a 220-hectare estate where coffee flourishes among semi-forest and wild forest plots at 2100 meters above sea level. Founded by Dawit and Hester after inheriting Dawit's grandfather's farm, Bette Buna employs 850 dedicated workers who meticulously oversee every aspect of production while receiving fair wages, transportation, housing, and education for their children.
This lot undergoes a meticulous anaerobic natural process, where handpicked cherries ferment in sealed, oxygen-deprived environments. This controlled fermentation for 72H unlocks complex flavor compounds before the cherries are dried on raised beds for 3-5 weeks, alternating between full sun and shade. This precise method enhances the coffee's inherent characteristics while adding remarkable depth.
Featuring local varieties 74112, 74110, and wild Guji Megadu cultivars, this coffee delivers a sensory journey.
In the cup: blackberry and toffee complemented by concord grape sweetness. The cup reveals a juicy texture and delicate floral aromatics.
Minimum resting period: 10 days from the roast date for espresso, 8 days for filter roast.
