Summary and Tasting notes

About the Coffee

Origin
Nestled in Kenya's Central Province, the Kiambu region is renowned for its exceptional coffee-growing conditions. Volcanic soils rich in minerals and high-altitude landscapes create an ideal microclimate for coffee cultivation. The region's elevation and consistent temperatures enable slow cherry maturation, concentrating sugars and developing complex flavor profiles.

Producer
Established in 1954, the Gititu Farmers' Cooperative Society represents approximately 1,000 smallholder farmers. Many members practice diversified agriculture, growing complementary crops like bananas and corn. They utilize innovative sustainable practices, including recycling coffee cherry pulp as organic fertilizer, demonstrating a commitment to both environmental stewardship and coffee quality.

Process
This coffee undergoes a meticulous washed processing method. Ripe cherries are hand-picked and immediately delivered to the washing station, where they're carefully sorted. A four-disc pulping machine removes the fruit, and beans are fermented for 20-24 hours to break down mucilage. After washing, the beans are dried on raised African beds for 1-3 weeks, ensuring uniform moisture and preserving the coffee's intrinsic qualities.
Tasting Notes
Juicy and sweet with a syrupy body and complex brightness. Expect a vibrant flavor journey featuring a berry mix, rhubarb, and brown sugar, complemented by a distinctive pink grapefruit zest. As the coffee cools, delicate floral undertones emerge, revealing the depth of this exceptional microlot. Suggested brewing: Allow 7-10 days post-roast for optimal flavor development.
