We're excited to share this washed Gesha lot which, not only showcases its classic floral profile, but also stands out with vibrant fruit-forward notes of mandarin.

Aristóbulo Rayo Méndez is the owner of Finca La Victoria, a 47-hectare farm located in Ortega, Tolima. He has been growing coffee for 50 years, continuing a long family tradition of coffee cultivation. While the farm spans a large area, only 8 hectares at 1830 m.asl are dedicated to coffee, with an additional 10 hectares preserved as a natural forest, which Aristóbulo actively protects.

The farm is home to approximately 38,000 coffee trees, featuring Castillo, Caturra, and Geisha varietals.

Aristobulo Rayo Mendez is a member of Cafe Agrario, which is an association of 35 small producers from Ortega in Tolima.

Café Agrario gradually transitioned from commercial to specialty coffee to enhance income through higher quality production. However, limited knowledge and infrastructure restricted its members from fully meeting specialty market standards.

They have received support from Siruma, a Colombian specialty coffee exporter, which has provided agronomy expertise, logistical guidance, and direct market access. This partnership has greatly enhanced their coffee quality and organizational skills.

Process:

During the harvest, coffee cherries are picked every 20 days, with pickers receiving a premium for selecting only ripe ones. Once harvested, the cherries are taken to the beneficio, where they are pulped and undergone a 24-hour fermentation process in tiled tanks. After fermentation, the beans are washed three times and then dried on African raised beds.

In the cup:

Expect mandarin complemented by elegant floral notes of orange blossom, with the subtle sweetness of vanilla and the delicate, aromatic body reminiscent of coffee cherry, and a vibrant acidity.
