The Daterra farm, owned by Luis Norberto Pascoal, is made up of 216 micro-farms. It utilizes the microclimates in various parts of the estates to produce unique coffees, categorizing them into three lines: Classics, Collection, and Masterpieces.
Located within Brazil's famous Cerrado region, which accounts for nearly 23% of the country's land, Daterra is the world's first Grade A Rainforest Certified farm in any industry. A stroll through the farm reveals a stunning variety of birds and wildlife, including toucans, burrowing owls, monkeys.
In 1902, an Italian family from Bari embarked on a new life in Brazil, settling in Campinas to plant coffee. By 1908, the eldest son started a market booth selling green coffee beans, roasting them, and teaching housewives how to roast properly, emphasizing education from the start.
The family expanded into a gourmet shop but eventually shifted to running a gas station. After the early death of his parents, the eldest son, Donato, took over the business.
The family's auto parts business flourished with dedication, passion, and responsibility. In 1976, they returned to agriculture, founding Daterra – meaning “From the earth” – where they rediscovered their passion for coffee.
The journey instilled in them lasting principles, which they remain committed to in their coffee production, pledging to provide the highest quality for both people and the planet.
The Cerrado Region offers ideal conditions for growing exceptional coffee beans. Characterized by a steady climate with dry, cool winters and warm, wet summers, the region boasts dry winds, hot days, and cool nights.
Daterra's farms in Patrocínio are among the oldest coffee plantations in the Brazilian Cerrado and are considered some of the best in the country. Situated at altitudes ranging from over 900 to 1,200 meters, the farms benefit from exceptional wind, sun, and soil conditions, ideal for Arabica trees.
Daterra was founded with a focus on environmental preservation and social development in specialty coffee production.
The farms underwent a decade-long restoration involving the ecosystem’s fauna, flora, soil, and water. Partnering with ESALQ (Sao Paulo State University), Daterra established environmental standards and achieved multiple certifications, including Rainforest Alliance and ISO 14001.
To create Bruzzi, which is named after Italy's Abruzzo region, Daterra processes coffee cherries of Acaia and Mundo Novo in two different ways: natural (dried on the tree) and pulped (semi-washed). Following this, the coffee is dried first on a patio and then on a drum dryer.
This mixed process is particularly suited for espresso, giving the coffee prominent tasting notes of dark chocolate, stone fruits and vanilla, boasting a creamy body and a subtle acidity.
Minimum resting period: 10 days from roast date for espresso roast.
